Having finally been declared Covid-19 free, Mosimane returned to the Al Ahly bench on Monday to lead his team to a complete 4-0 victory over Al Ittihad in the Egyptian Premier League.
It was Mosimane’s second win over Al Ittihad since taking over as coach at the club.
IBRAHIM HASSAN PLAYED OVER 100 GAMES FOR EGYPT
Last month, Al Ahly beat Al Ittihad 2-1 in the semi-finals of the Egyptian Cup, and the back-to-back losses have apparently upset Hassan.
Hassan, who played 78 and then 161 games for Al Ahly over two stints during his playing career, now serves as Sporting Director for Al Ittihad.
Hassan’s twin brother Hossam is the current Al Ittihad manager.
Ibrahim Hassam, who is a legend in terms of games played (131) for his country, interrupted the post-game press conference on Monday to criticize Mosimane’s abilities.
“If Haris, the man from Al Ahly’s team, took over Al Ahly, he will win trophies,” Hassan was quoted as saying by KingFut.
“If we [Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan] took over from Al Ahly let’s win trophies. If Pitso managed any other team in the league, he will be fired after two games.
“Al Ahly were not good against us in the Egyptian Cup or in their last matches or in the CAF Champions League.”
However, despite the harsh words, Mosimane, now a two-time CAF Champions League champion, took the opinion in stride.
‘THE SAME APPLIES TO ALL GREAT TEAMS’ – MOSIMANE
“If we look at what he [Hassan] That said, it applies to all the major teams in the world. Real Madrid, Manchester City and PSG, but football doesn’t work like that ”, said Mosimane.
“What I know is that football only recognizes work and effort and if his words were logical, Al Ahly would have won seven Champions League titles in a row.
“Being Al Ahly does not guarantee victories, you have to prepare and work hard, but this is his opinion and I respect it.”
Since Mosimane’s appointment in September, Al Ahly has won 13 matches and drew one in all competitions.
Al Ahly have lifted the Egyptian Premier League, the Egyptian Cup and the CAF Champions League since Mosimane’s arrival.
They will next be in action on New Years Day against Wadi Degla at 7.30pm (South Africa time) as they look to stretch their lead to the top of the rankings.
