Mamelodi sundowns coach Pitso mosimane has praised By Gavin Hunt Coaching ability and admitted that he has provided strong competition over the years.
Hunt has been linked to the coaching jobs of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, following the sale of Bidvest Wits to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzhivhandila, and Mosimane acknowledges that the former SuperSport United boss would be up to the task.
Mosimane pointed to Hunt’s trophy collection as evidence that he is a fierce competitor with the ability to fight for silverware.
Hunt has won South Africa’s top flight four times, three times with SuperSport and once with Bidvest Wits, in addition to winning the Telkom Knockout, Nedbank Cup and MTN8.
“Gav keeps me on the edge. Our games are always very even, let’s be honest. I can easily say that I’ve been following him. He has accomplished things even before I do, to be honest, and you can’t be lucky for so many years. “Mosimane told the media.
“He’s a very good coach and he knows how to win. He’s won a lot, and he’s won trophies, man. So how can he be lucky? He’s a very good coach.
“His ratio of wins to losses is not deteriorating. He’s winning. I mean, the guy just won … I think he won a cup last year, huh?
“It’s always been SuperSport e Wits. They’ll win a Top 8 there, a Telkom or Nedbank somewhere, and SuperSport will top one of those, and we’ll win one there too.
“Let’s be honest, for the last five or six years, it’s been like this.”
When asked if Hunt could coach Chiefs or Pirates, Mosimane added, “So yeah, why not? If Gav goes to Chiefs or Pirates, I’m happy because you have to remember that I always promote ‘local is lekker.’
