JOHANNESBURG – Pioneer Foods launched an investigation after glass particles were discovered in cans of Liqui Fruit.

The batch of the red grape flavored drink was recalled after three consumers found small shards of glass in the drink.

“Investigation into the root cause and scope of the problem is ongoing, but as a precautionary measure, we are conducting a product recall of a particular batch of 330ml cans of Liqui Fruit Red Grape,” said Pioneer Foods in a statement on Sunday.

By law, such a recall should be facilitated by the National Consumer Commission (NCC).

“The batch itself must have a specific expiration date, which is April 2-3, 2021. Because it is a fast-moving product, we urgently wanted them to make sure that consumers are alert and the product withdraw from distributors and stores, “said commission spokeswoman Shezi Mabuza.
