TechCentral reported on On Tuesday Pick n Pay became the first Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) on the MTN network. The companies have now released details about the PnP Mobile initiative.
PnP Mobile will be closely tied to Pick n Pay’s Smart Shopper loyalty program, with shoppers ready to earn “instant data rewards” based on spending at retail stores across the country.
South Africa’s latest MVNO will use MTN’s mobile network infrastructure to offer customers prepaid Sim-based access to services including airtime, data and SMS. A tiered reward system for Smart Shopper customers will allow them to earn up to 2.5GB in free data rewards every month. Boxer Superstores is also expected to release a SIM card soon.
“Smart shoppers will earn data rewards as well as loyalty points when they shop at any Pick n Pay store nationwide. This will include Express, Apparel and Liquor stores, ”Pick n Pay said in a statement Wednesday.
“For every R10 spent in the store, customers will instantly get 5MB worth of data. To qualify for this reward, customers will need to link their Smart Shopper card and top up their PnP Mobile Sim card with at least R50 over a 30-day period. “
Pick n Pay said customers will be able to register their new SIM card without any paperwork and in minutes through a paperless registration facility. This one will launch in 500 select stores later this year.
Data rewards
The retailer’s director of technology and services, Richard van Rensburg, said: “Our prices will be simple, transparent and competitive with other providers, plus we will offer significant rewards of free data just by shopping in our stores.”
Instant data rewards will be determined by customers’ PnP Mobile spend, and will range from 250MB to 2.5GB each month depending on their tier.
For example, if a customer recharges their PnP Mobile Sim card with R100 and spends R1,000 on groceries, they would earn 500MB in data rewards.
The free data rewards are in addition to the data or airtime that customers would have purchased with their R100 mobile spend, he said.
“Data rewards will be instantly loaded onto a customer’s SIM card after every purchase. Customers will continue to earn Smart Shopper points for each store, along with other benefits, by swiping their Smart Shopper card. These include instant savings on Smart Price and personalized discounts. “- © 2020 NewsCentral Media
