A 52-year-old woman who fell four meters onto rocks at the Kloof Gorge waterfall in Durban on Sunday was airlifted to hospital in serious condition after a grueling four-hour rescue operation.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst, paramedics responded to the incident at 10:24.

“Reports from the scene indicate that a 52-year-old woman had lost her balance and had fallen approximately four meters onto the rocks,” Herbst said.

A multidisciplinary team undertook a long walk to where the woman was.

“Once on stage, [she] he was found to have sustained serious injuries and was treated at the scene by a Netcare 911 emergency care physician. “

“Once stabilized, [she] He was transported by the rescue team using a specialized stretcher and rope rescue system to ascend the steep uphill.

“The mission to get the patient to a meeting point took just under four hours,” Herbst said.

It was then loaded onto a Netcare 911 helicopter and transferred to a specialized facility.
