The 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix had its fair share of action. The race had just started when Haas driver Romain Grojean got in touch with Alfa Tauri’s Daniil Kvyat. The result of the incident raised the red flag, which caused the race to be suspended while officials prepared to fix the barricade.
After more than an hour, the race restarted, but Racing Point’s Lance Stroll also made contact with Kvyat. This turned the car around and the safety car was pulled out to lead the grid around the track as deputies prepared to remove debris from the track. In both cases, the drivers left alive.
Grosjean’s fiery clash
Seconds after the race started, Grosjean tried to overtake several drivers. For the maneuver to be successful, he lunged to his right, into space, but made contact with Kvyat. Grosjean’s car went off the track and into the barricade. The impact was so intense that the car immediately caught fire. A large ball of fire shot into the air and the race was immediately stopped.
As the drivers headed to the pits, medical personnel and sheriffs rushed to the scene to treat Grosjean. Surprisingly, the car broke in half and Grosjean was unharmed. According to the team, Grosjean suffered minor burns to his hands and feet and is suspected of having broken ribs.

Flip the ride
Almost 90 minutes after the Grosjean incident, the race was restarted. Everything was apparently smooth until the yellow flags were waved again. This time for Paseo. The safety car was deployed and the drivers followed as the affected Racing Point pulled off the track. Reviewing the images, it came to light that Stroll’s right rear tire made contact with Kvyat’s left front tire. The impact sent the ‘Pink Mercedes’ through the air and onto the roof.
