It left the West Indies facing the second highest chase in Twenty20 history to win, but the 12-plus goal proved too much and they were 166 out of nine at the end.

After his impressive swing with the bat, which featured eight sixes and 10 fours, Phillips also starred down the field with the abrupt exit of Andre Fletcher and a catch on the edge to eliminate Kyle Mayers.

New Zealand, which won the opener by five wickets, leads the series 2-0 with the third and final game to be played at Mount Maunganui on Monday.
