PRETORIA – The EFF led by Julius Malema on Wednesday warned companies that they claimed money from the Temporary Assistance Plan for Employers / Employers (TERS) from the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) Covid-19 and withheld it from workers.

“We reiterate our call to all companies that have claimed Unemployment Insurance Funds so that their employees pay the workers what they are owed immediately.

“Otherwise, they too will receive a warm special visit from the EFF,” said EFF national spokesperson Vuyani Pambo.

In addition, we call on all workers throughout the country to contact the EFF to alert us to companies that have not paid the FIU and we will pay them a special and warm visit ”.

On Wednesday, Malema, accompanied by the head of the EFF working group, Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi, visited Pharmacy Direct CEO Gavie Erasmus in light of the ongoing debacle over paying TERS money to workers .

“Erasmus treated the workers with disdain and pure white racist arrogance when confronted by the non-payment of TERS,” said Pambo.

The EFF said it had reached an agreement with Erasmus whereby it would return the money it received from the government on behalf of the workers and then the Pharmacy Direct workers would individually claim the FIU.

“When meeting with the EFF, the CEO unreservedly apologized to the workers for his attitude and behavior towards them, which was captured on video.

“The EFF and Pharmacy Direct, with the Pharmacy Direct workers, amicably agreed that the money paid by TERS should be returned by Pharmacy Direct to the Department of Employment and Labor,” said Pambo.

Many workers, particularly in South Africa’s vast restaurant and hospitality sector, claim that their employers claimed money from the FIU on their behalf, but the money was diverted by employers.
