Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he is “very excited” to continue with the challenge of “improving and evolving” the club’s status after putting a new two-year contract in writing.

The 49-year-old Spaniard has put an end to months of speculation about his future by committing to summer 2023, and his previous contract will expire at the end of the season.

Since taking the reins from Manuel Pellegrini in July 2016, Guardiola has led City to eight major trophies and won 181 of his 245 games in charge.

“ Since I came to Manchester City, I have been made to feel very welcome at the club and in the city itself, by the players, the staff, the fans, the Manchester people and the president and owner, ” Guardiola told City official. website.

“Since then we have achieved a lot together, we scored goals, we won games and trophies, and we are all very proud of that success.

“Having that kind of support is the best thing any manager can have. I have everything I could wish for to do my job well and I am honored by the trust of the owner, president, Ferran [Soriano] and Txiki [Begiristain] they have shown me to continue two more years after this season.

“The challenge for us is to keep improving and evolving, and I’m very excited to help Manchester City do that.”

Guardiola’s current five-year stint at the Etihad is already his longest commitment to a club since entering the world of management with Barcelona in 2008.

The Catalan would surpass Joe Mercer on the City’s list of longest-serving postwar managers should he see his new deal in the Northwest.
