Rio Fernando He says Paul Pogba’s agent is cause of various player problems.
Pogba admitted earlier this month that he had never heard of former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness when asked about the Scot’s long-term criticism of him, which ended up being disproportionate.
Meanwhile, the Manchester United midfielder’s agent, Mino Raiola, has also been causing controversy in recent months after a series of media comments that the Red Devils are unhappy with.
And speaking to The Beautiful Game Podcast, Ferdinand addressed the two recent issues: “He hasn’t even played soccer this year. I don’t get it. Why are you talking about Paul Pogba? He didn’t play this season, really. So he shouldn’t be in the conversation, I don’t understand.
“For Paul Pogba to say he doesn’t know who [Souness] is or would not know him as a footballer, I think. He is not disrespectful, he does not know him.
“As good a player as Souness was: he was one of the best players, one of the best. If you were talking about the best British midfielders we have ever produced, he is in the conversation, 100 percent, Graeme Souness was a good player.”
“But Paul Pogba doesn’t know him. As simple as that, and that’s the difference in generations. I don’t think it’s disrespectful.”
“If I were Paul Pogba, I would say the same thing, but I would have said it from a disrespectful point of view. Because I would be saying, ‘You’ve been bothering me all this time and I haven’t kicked a ball, why are you talking about me?
“And I’m honest about Paul and I love Paul, because he’s a great kid. I’ve known him since he was a kid and I still chat with him now. But the only problem I have with Paul is that he should chat instead of talking to his Agent If I did, there would be more clarity about the whole situation.
“I talked to him about all those kinds of things, but Paul is his own man and he’s going to deal with it in his own way, I respect him, that’s fine. So that’s the only thing he would say.”
