Legendary musician Paul McCartney appeared earlier this week, discussing his past with British rock band The Beatles, and how things went downhill after John Lennon’s departure.
the Hi jude The singer shed light on the group’s mess after Lennon cut their ties in 1969, with the rest of the four members, including Ringo Starr and George Harrison.
During an interview in Sirius XMMcCartney told Howerd Stern how he felt discouraged from continuing with the band, which also partly had to do with Harrison, who passed away in 2001.
“The thing is Howard, that’s like a family. When families break up, it has to do with emotion and emotional pain,” he said.
“It hurts too much, so it wasn’t going to happen.” We had been through a lot and I think we were fed up with everything, “he continued.
Stern asked the singer if Harrison’s musical abilities were underestimated by the band that got in the way.
“It was easy to underestimate George because John and I, like you said, had always written most of the stuff and had most of the singles,” McCartney replied.
“George was slow to flourish, when it comes to writing. I wasn’t that interested in the beginning. But then he became interested, and boy did it flourish. He wrote some of the best songs ever, “he added.
In a previous interview with Stern, McCartney admitted that Lennon’s relationship with Yoko Ono was primarily responsible for the band’s final downfall.
“There was a meeting where John walked in and said, ‘Hey guys, I’m leaving the group.’ He found that Yoko and John loved strong women,” McCartney had said in 2018.
“She used to sit in on the recording sessions and we’ve never had anything like this.” Looking back, you would think “the boy was totally in love with her.” You must respect that and we did it, and I do it, “he added.
