JOHANNESBURG – AmaZulu confirmed on Friday that owner and president Dr. Patrick Sokhela signed an agreement with Zungu Investment Company (ZICO) whereby businessman and entrepreneur Sandile Zungu will acquire 100% ownership of the club.

The acquisition will be effective after the approval of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and other authorities and electoral districts.

Usuthu is the oldest team in the DSTV Premiership with a history spanning more than 88 years.

Speaking at a briefing in Durban, Sokhela said it was time to hand over the reins after a decade as an owner.

“I have been the owner and president of AmaZulu for the past 16 years, and the time has come to pass the banner on to a new owner,” he said. “I believe that the new owner will continue to grow the club in both status and stature, as I have strived to do.”

Sokhela added that by handing over the club to Zungu Investment Company, he was leaving it in good hands.

“I can’t think of anyone better than Sandile Zungu to put himself in my place and continue the great legacy of this club.”
