A man previously convicted of rape was arrested for the rape of two 11- and 13-year-old girls in a Pretoria hotel.

The 45-year-old man appeared in Pretoria regional court on Monday, following his arrest by Sunnyside police on Friday afternoon. The case was postponed until December for a bond hearing.

Police were informed that the suspect had taken the two minors from Lotus Gardens in Attridgeville to a liquor store in Pretoria West, Brig Mathapelo Peters said.

“From there, the three went to the hotel where the suspect reserved a room, where he allegedly raped both victims.

“Investigators at this stage have been able to confirm that the suspect is on probation after serving time for a previous rape case.”

With the advent of the 16 Days Campaign for Non-Violence Against Women and Children, Gauteng Acting Police Commissioner General Patricia Rampota assured the public that the police are committed to defending the rights of victims of gender and domestic violence and prioritizing the investigation of all crimes committed where women, children and other vulnerable people are victims.

“Our communities are encouraged to become familiar with the SAPS systems that exist to ensure that the community receives optimal service delivery at all times, in order to restore public confidence in the service. The SAPS service complaint center is accessible to the public to file complaints that can range from poor service delivery in terms of response time, investigations, police negligence, police misconduct and general complaints against SAPS members, “he said.

Complaints can be filed directly by visiting a community service center (CSC) at your local police station. When the station commander and district commissioner cannot help, the complaint can be referred to the provincial office by calling 011-274 7786, 082 442 2000, or by sending an email to [email protected].
