The Orlando Pirates have added another star name to their ranks, this time in the form of a lethal striker from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Orlando Pirates announced the signing of forward Jean-Marc Makusu Mundele from AS Vita on loan throughout the season with the option to make the permanent transfer at the end of the season.
Makusu was due to join Moroccan team RS Berkane last year for a fee of around R7 million after scoring more than 40 goals for AS Vita Club in 2018, however a prolonged injury prevented him from moving north. Since then, the Orlando Pirates have secured their services until the end of the 2020/2021 season.

Orlando Pirates confirmed Makusu’s arrival on a one-season loan deal from Congolese giants AS Vita Club on Thursday morning via an official club statement.
“The Orlando Pirates Football Club has secured the services of AS Vita’s Democratic Republic of Congo striker Jean-Marc Makusu Mundele.” – He read a statement from the club.
Makusu signed earlier this week after passing his medical exam and initially joins with a season-long loan, which includes the option to make the permanent transfer at the end of the season.“

Makusu’s continental experience will provide the Orlando Pirates with a significant advantage ahead of their 2020/2021 CAF Confederations Cup campaign. The former AS Vita striker scored 18 goals and assisted three other goals in his two previous continental campaigns.
“I am happy to have joined this prestigious club and I look forward to a successful stay.” – Makusu said after his arrival at the Buccaneers.
“This move presents a new challenge in a new country for me. I have great ambitions and I am sure I can achieve them with my new teammates ”.
Makusu will compete with players like Zakhele Lepasa, Gabadinho Mhango, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Kabelo Dlamini and Terrence Dzvukamanja for a spot in the Orlando Pirates’ starting lineup.
