Wayde Jooste of the Orlando Pirates challenged by Edmilson Dove of Cape Town City during the MTN8 quarterfinal between the Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City on October 17, 2020 at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, South Africa.

Orlando Pirates advanced to the semifinals of the MTN8 with a 1-0 win a 10 men Cape Town side thanks to a debutante goal Terrence Dzvukamanja at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

Two rookies combined to give the Buccaneers a valuable lead in the 23rd minute when Wayde Jooste hit a cross that Dzvukamanja looked past the stranded Peter Leeuwenburgh.

City were reduced to 10 men after referee Jelly Chavani showed forward Fagrie Lakay a direct red card for a nasty tackle on Jooste in the 32nd minute.

The two teams went into halftime with the Pirates with a one-goal lead.

City made a change at halftime by signing a renowned forward in Tashreeq Morris to fill the attacking void left by Lakay’s early departure.

The Pirates appeared to have doubled their lead thanks to another rookie at Thulani Hlatshwayo in the 49th minute, but their goal was disallowed for a foul on a City defender.

Leeuwenburgh kept the visitors in the game with some big saves and denied Zakhele Lepasa in the 84th minute in a one-on-one situation.

Dzvukamanja’s goal turned out to be the decisive goal as the Buccaneers maintained their narrow lead to advance to the semi-finals.
