JOHANNESBURG – Opposition parties have reacted positively to the announcement that South Africa will move to alert level 1 from next week.
The cabinet decided on Wednesday that the country should go to alert level 1 starting at midnight on Sunday, September 20, 2020.
“This measure recognizes that infection levels are relatively low and that there is sufficient capacity in our healthcare system to handle the current need,” Ramaphosa said.

Acting DA Leader John Steenhuisen said, “We are certainly going to need a lot more than Jerusalem to get the economy moving again,” referencing the president’s parting remarks, encouraging South Africans to participate in the #JerusalemaChallege to show unity.
“The more stimulus we can give the economy, the more investment we can make, and the more money we can spend on fixing the economy and reducing waste in government, I think it will be better in the future.”
