Openserve Releases Free Fiber and ADSL Speed Updates

Openserve has announced that it will update its customers’ fiber and ADSL line speeds for three months, beginning May 1, 2020.

“Responding to market changes as a result of COVID-19, Openserve’s fiber and DSL customers will enjoy improved data rates over a three-month period, effective as of May 1, 2020,” the company said.

This follows Vumatel, Frogfoot, Link Africa and MetroFibre announcing free line speed updates for customers last month.

“Openserve is … [ensuring] that we do everything in our power to keep the nation connected during the national closure period and beyond, “said Openserve CEO Althon Beukes.

“Virtual connections have never been more important.”

Openserve noted that since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, many network providers and ISPs have improved customer line speeds.

“In response to these market changes, Openserve has taken the necessary steps to ensure that ISPs are not adversely affected, offering twice the speed to qualifying FTTH and DSL customers from May through July,” the company said. .

Speed improvements

Line speed upgrades for Openserve fiber will only benefit the 10Mbps, 20Mbps, and 40Mbps lines, with unchanged 100Mbps and 200Mpbs lines.

Openserve will update all ADSL line speeds below 10Mbps to 10Mbps, subject to distance and network limitations. The existing 10Mbps, 20Mbps and 40Mbps ADSL lines will remain unchanged.

“Services that cannot reach 10Mbps will be excluded from the update,” Openserve said.

These speed updates are detailed in the table below.

Previous download speed New download speed
Fiber
10 Mbps 20 Mbps
20 Mbps 40 Mbps
40 Mbps 100 Mbps
100 Mbps Unchanged

2 Mbps 10 Mbps
4 Mbps 10 Mbps
8 Mbps 10 Mbps

“With this new proposal, our low-speed fiber customers will at least double their speeds, ensuring they have enough additional bandwidth to meet their demands,” said Beukes.

“We have also focused our efforts on increasing the speeds of our low-speed DSL clients. Our slower speed DSL clients will upgrade to up to 10x the existing speed, where network constraints allow. “

“Speed is critical in the fast-paced and constantly evolving business landscape we are in today. It is important to keep up to date as we learn to adapt, “said Beukes.
