The transport of alcohol will be allowed during the long weekend of Easter.
Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma caused a stir on Thursday when she told a news conference that barricades would be set up and that the transport of alcohol would not be allowed.
“During the weekend, the police will be barricading and stuff. [People] They are not allowed to carry alcohol and other things from one place to another, “he said Thursday morning.
But in a sea change Thursday afternoon, Dlamini-Zuma spokesman Mlungisi Mtshali told Talk Radio 702 that people will be allowed to carry their own alcohol.
“The short answer is yes, people can transport their own alcohol, even between provinces.
“There is no risk of having your alcohol confiscated.”
Danie Cronjé, an alcoholic beverage law attorney, wrote on LinkedIn: “The ‘new’ Regulation 81 does not contain any prohibitions on the transportation of alcoholic beverages by alcoholic beverage licensees or members of the public.”
