Newly elected MDC-T chairman Douglas Mwonzora assumed his new role at the helm of the opposition party today by introducing a new executive in which he kept fellow electoral rivals, including Dr. Thokozani Khupe, Mr. Morgan Komichi and the engineer Elias Mudzuri.
This despite the trio rejected their electoral victory citing what they considered massive electoral manipulation.
Mr. Mwonzora held a press conference today at Harvest House, where he announced a new leadership that constitutes the party’s standing committee and retained his rivals, among other key appointments.
Under the new executive structure, Dr. Khupe resumed her position as First Vice President alongside Eng Mudzuri, while Mr. Komichi retained his position as National President.
The press conference was also attended by other party bigwigs including Dr. Tapiwa Mashakada, who was appointed National Treasurer General, while Paurina Mpariwa replaced Mr. Mwonzora as Secretary General.
Addressing reporters, Mwonzora said the extraordinary congress that just ended the weekend substantially complied with the Supreme Court ruling ordering the party to convene an extraordinary congress to replace the party’s founding chairman, Morgan Tsvangirai.
