A former member of Parliament is among those arrested over the weekend in connection with a 4.8 million rand theft case involving the Limpopo Makgatho Community Property Association, the Hawks said Sunday.
Hawks spokesman Captain Matimba Maluleke said the former congressman was arrested at his home in Kanana Village on Sunday morning.
His identity has not been released as he has not yet appeared in court.
During the weekend, a former president of the real estate association, a bank employee and a senior official from the Molemole municipality were also arrested.
The Hawks said that between 2015 and 2018, the suspects “allegedly conspired and awarded a farm tender to a company linked to the wife of the senior city official without following due process.”
They were expected to appear in Polokwane Magistrates Court on Monday.
This is a story in development.
