The ANC in Mpumalanga suspended a member of its provincial executive committee (PEC) after he was arrested Monday morning for allegedly raping his daughters.
The acting president of the ANC in Mpumalanga, Mandla Ndlovu, said that ANC officials in the province had met and decided that the man should resign from his position in the ANC given the seriousness of the charges he faces.
The man who cannot yet be identified was arrested Monday for raping his two daughters.
Police spokesman Brig. Leonard Hlathi could not be reached for comment.
“It is a very serious accusation and it is really bad if it really happened,” Ndlovu said.
He said the ANC was shocked by the allegations and took the rape allegations seriously.
“We met as officials and resolved that you should not be asked to step aside, it should be automatic. It is not in the PEC and the matter of whether your membership will be canceled will be discussed in the future,” Ndlovu said.
