Floyd Shivambu seen in an altercation with Netwerk24 journalist Adrian de Kock outside Parliament.
- EFF Vice President Floyd Shivambu made statements to the NPA in an assault case against him about why he should not be prosecuted.
- But the trial continues in February 2021.
- He is accused of assaulting photographer Adrian de Kock in the Parliament compound in March 2018.
EFF Vice President Floyd Shivambu is expected to be tried for common assault in February next year.
This, after the National Prosecutor’s Office (NPA) denied the representations it made about why he should not be prosecuted.
NPA regional spokesman Eric Ntabazalila said his case was postponed until February 11, 2021 for trial.
The case comes after Shivambu allegedly assaulted Netwerk24 photographer Adrian de Kock in Parliament on March 20, 2018.
De Kock’s editor, Henriette Loubser, also said: “Negotiations between Mr. Shivambu and Mr. De Kock to resolve the matter out of court have not been successful. Mr. De Kock is prepared for the remainder of the process”.

The incident occurred while the media was covering a disciplinary matter of the match between the former mayor of Cape Town Patricia de Lille and the district attorney in the parliamentary compound.
De Kock was part of a group of media representatives who took photos and reported on the matter.
He took a photo of Shivambu, who responded by pushing him against a wall. But a security officer from the compound intervened.
According to court documents, Shivambu was released with a warning.
EFF leader Julius Malema and MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi are currently on trial at the Randburg Court of First Instance for alleged assault on a police officer.
Lt. Col. Johannes Jacobus Venter alleged that the two men assaulted him at Fourways Memorial Park Cemetery on April 14, 2018 at the funeral of hardcore fighter Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
