South African cricket (CSA) the interim board has suspended Kugandrie govender due to allegations of misconduct both while she was in the position of commercial director of the organization and in her current position as interim CEO.

She will be replaced by Chief Financial Officer Pholetsi Moseki with immediate effect, the organization said in a statement sent to the media Tuesday afternoon.

Govender, who will now face a hearing on January 28, 2021, will have to answer for the following charges brought against him according to the statement:

  • Tthe role it played in revoking the media accreditation of certain journalists in December 2019;
  • Various violations of the provisions of the Companies Act as a CSA prescribed officer; and
  • His role in the dismissal of Mr. Clive Eksteen, which CSA has now recognized (in terms of a settlement agreement with Mr. Eksteen) was an unfair dismissal.

Govender became CSA’s Acting Chief Executive Officer following the resignation of Jacques Faull in August.

The CSA Interim Board has delivered a suspension notice and disciplinary hearing to the CSA Interim Executive Director, Ms. Kugandrie Govender, today.

This notice establishes allegations of misconduct by Ms. Govender while serving as CSA’s Chief Commercial Officer and as Acting Executive Director. The hearing will take place on January 28, 2021, when Ms. Govender will be able to respond to the charges against her.

The charges against Ms Govender concern, among other things,,

  • Tthe role it played in revoking the media accreditation of certain journalists in December 2019;
  • Various violations of the provisions of the Companies Act as a CSA prescribed officer; and
  • The role you played in the dismissal of Mr. Clive Eksteen, which CSA has now recognized (in terms of a settlement agreement with Mr. Eksteen) was an unfair dismissal.

Ms. Govender has been suspended and will receive full payment until the matter is decided.

To ensure CSA remains fully functional during this time, the Interim Board has arranged for the appointment of a capable person from an audit firm to withstand non-compliance until early January 2021. The executive management team is led by the Director CSA Financier, Mr. Pholetsi Moseki, effective immediately.

He has agreed to take on this position in the short term and we look forward to working with him. The IB President also addressed the CSA staff this afternoon to address any concerns they may have and assure them of the IB’s full support.
