The 109 of the ANCth The anniversary celebrations, scheduled for Jan. 8 at Ga-Mphahlele in Limpopo, have been canceled, he announced Monday.
This comes after national political party officials met on Monday morning and received a report from Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Officials were unanimous that it was inappropriate to go ahead with the celebration in view of the aggressive nature of the pandemic. We believe that we must maintain the prescribed measures to minimize the spread and impact of this pandemic,” he added. National spokesman Pule Mabe said in a statement.
“As the leader of society, [the] ANC believes that it would not be responsible for continuing the celebrations where people gather, even in smaller groups and in reduced numbers. For this reason and in the interests of saving lives, ANC officials have decided to cancel all celebrations on January 8th.
Instead, ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa will read a statement that will be broadcast through the party’s digital platforms.
