The brigades have been arrested for their alleged involvement in fraud, defeating the administration of justice and contravention of the Firearms Control Act in multiple case files in the Edenvale, Kempton Park and Norwood areas in Gauteng province.
“The arrest of the two brigade members brings to 28 the total number of people arrested in connection with these cases after 26 people were arrested earlier this year. Of the 28 suspects, 17 are police officers, of whom two are retirees and 11 civilians.
“These investigations began three years ago when it became known that, during November 2017, security companies were involved in extortion crimes in the Western Cape province related to firearms applications in Gauteng,” Naidoo said.
The top two officers are expected to appear at Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
