‘On your knees’, ‘please’: some Liverpool fans urge Reds to start tomorrow with £ 80k a week

Several Liverpool fans have called for Xherdan Shaqiri to be named to the Reds’ starting XI for tomorrow’s League Cup third-round match.

The 28-year-old has made 41 competitive appearances for Liverpool since moving to Anfield two years ago, but has yet to appear this season.

Even last season, Shaqiri only made 10 appearances in all competitions last season, with just 228 minutes, and his three starts came during the busy December period.

The Liverpool Echo reported earlier this month that the Reds remain open to offers for Shaqiri, on a £ 80,000-a-week contract through 2023, although they are not actively looking to move him.

Even if the Swiss international were to stay at Anfield, there are plenty of Liverpool fans eager to see him gain playing time, something that has eluded him for a while.

And with Liverpool in League Cup action in Lincoln tomorrow, some Reds fans wish to see Shaqiri start:

Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip remain unavailable for Liverpool and will not be considered for tomorrow’s third round tie, the Reds confirmed.

Meanwhile, teenage center back Billy Koumetio underwent a fitness check on Wednesday after missing training in the previous days.
