OLED vs QLED: which is best for gaming

[ad_1]

If you are a console gamer, you should be fully aware that your television is one of the most important considerations when setting up your gaming system.

There are a seemingly endless number of televisions to choose from, and there are many considerations to take into account when deciding which television to buy.

These include the size, brand, smart technology, and prices supported by the TV.

However, the above specifications are relatively easy to understand, a consideration that may be more difficult for some buyers is the panel technology that the TV uses.

The two premium technologies you should consider are QLED and OLED, but it may not be clear which one is better for your gaming needs.

This is what you need to know.

QLED

QLED stands for Quantum Dot LED TV, although, curiously, it is more of an LCD screen than an LED screen.

QLED TVs essentially involve putting a quantum dot color filter in front of a traditional LCD backlight.

Basically this means that QLED TVs essentially use enhanced LCD technology.

However, this does not mean that QLED displays do not offer an incredible quality visual product.

The quantum dot color filter makes both the contrast and color of the screen enhanced and Samsung’s QLED TVs can deliver up to 4,000 nits of peak brightness on their premium TVs.

To put this in context, HDR requires 1,000 nits.

This means that HDR and 4K images are significantly improved compared to traditional LED technology.

The new game consoles from Sony and Microsoft, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, support 4K content, which means that the improved 4K visual quality is a great benefit for gamers.

QLED TVs are mainly available from Samsung, although there are a few other brands that offer this technology.

These TVs are almost exclusively 4K displays, although some of Samsung’s early 8K TVs also use this technology.

YOU ARE

Unlike QLED, OLED is a completely different technology than LCD, which was commonly used in older televisions.

OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode and works by using a film between two conductors that emits light when connected to an electrical current.

One of the most interesting parts of this technology is the quality of the blacks produced by this technology.

This is because the pixels themselves are producing light, which means that when black is needed, the light is turned off completely.

Other benefits of this technology include fast refresh rates and high contrast.

OLED is still a relatively low-volume technology compared to traditional LED monitors, but it is gaining importance as content continues to require better displays to show its full benefits.

It is also used by most of the major TV manufacturers besides Samsung, such as LG, Panasonic and Sony.

Which one to choose to play

There are pros and cons to both screens when it comes to choosing the right one as a player.

OLED displays will generally offer better contrast, making games designed to be admired for their cinematic nature more enjoyable.

Some of these TVs, like the ones from LG, also come with Nvidia’s G-Synch technology for smoother gameplay.

On the other hand, QLED TVs can display a much brighter picture, which can make the game more intuitive, as if you are playing a first person shooter game and need to spot your enemies.

However, the QLED and OLED displays will offer you an amazing gaming experience, and the biggest consideration should possibly not involve the panel itself.

You should prioritize a TV that has HDMI 2.1 ports, as these support 4K 120Hz video as well as 8K 60Hz video when gaming.

Other considerations include low input lag and the variable refresh rate that the TV supports.
