JOHANNESBURG – President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Tuesday that the country would remain on a level 1 alert, but with some additional restrictions.
He addressed the nation on Tuesday about developments in the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
His speech follows recent meetings with the coronavirus national command council, the president’s coordinating council, and the cabinet.
Ramaphosa based the alcohol sales on the following terms: “Given the role of alcohol in encouraging reckless behavior, we will put in place some restrictions over Easter weekend. To this end, the sale of alcohol for external consumption will be prohibited next Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday ”.
But selling alcohol for on-site consumption brings some relief.
“On-site sales will be allowed in restaurants, shebeens and bars, according to the license conditions, until 23:00.
