Durban – A 49-year-old nurse who paid hit men 40,000 rand to murder her abusive boyfriend has been imprisoned for 7 years.

Nokhona Mpanza, a nurse at St Apollinaris Hospital, pleaded guilty to the murder of Nkosinathi Ngcobo.

In her guilty plea in Pietermaritzburg High Court, Mpanza said that she and the deceased entered into a relationship in 2009 after the death of her husband.

“It was a tumultuous relationship.

“During the relationship, the deceased attacked me on numerous occasions and I had filed charges against him.”

She said she also took out a protection order against him at the Hlangani Magistrates Court.

“However, the police did not act against the deceased when he violated the protection order.

“The deceased told me that he was wasting his time if he thought the police would arrest him because he had political connections. “

She said that the deceased always came back to her and told her that he would never do it again.

“And I was a fool to fall for it.”

She said she supported Ngcobo and that he used her car.

“I was in love with him, but he abused his love affair with me and sometimes took all my salary.”

She told the court that in August 2017, she caught him with another woman.

And we had a physical fight.

“Then I discovered that in addition to the woman I met him with, he had another woman who had no knowledge of our relationship, she had been playing with me the whole time.

“I told the deceased to leave but he refused, saying he was exaggerating.

“He said he would kill me before I get rid of him.”

Mpanza said she then spoke with her cousin Sibonele Ngcamu about the situation and “we discussed killing the deceased.”

“A few weeks passed and Ngcamu came to my house and told me that the killers had come from Gauteng to do the job.

“Then I got scared and told him that I think we should cancel the plan.

“He told me that the killers would kill us both if we did.

“So I agreed that the plan should go ahead.”

On October 2, 2017, the deceased was shot in his motor vehicle in Bulwer.

“Over a period of two days I gave Ngcamu R40,000 to pay the murderers responsible for killing the deceased.”

In her plea she admitted that she and Ngcamu had conspired with other people to kill the deceased, which they did.

“I admit I paid the killers 40,000 rand.”

She said that she was sorry and that her conduct was unlawful and unlawful.

Mpanza agreed to testify against the other defendants.

She was sentenced to 12 years, of which five years were suspended on condition that she was not found guilty of a similar crime.
