Showmax launches a free version for non-subscribers.
- Non-subscribers can now watch Showmax for free.
- Users of the free version will see ads during playback.
- TV shows and movies that will be available include The river, Gomora, life with Kelly Khumalo Y iNumber Number.
Showmax has introduced a subscription-free streaming service in South Africa. The new service features a carefully curated list of content that allows customers to sample some of Showmax’s award-winning entertainment.
At launch, the service’s titles include local sports movies, series, and shows. Users will be able to stream movies and watch the first episodes of available series for free.
Expect early episodes and a few full seasons of many of South Africa’s most beloved series, including soap operas like The river; Gomorrah; record-breaking reality shows like Showmax Originals Somizi and Mohale: The Union Y Life with Kelly Khumalo; Lokshin Bioskop movies and SAFTA-winning dramas like Emergency shutdown, hotel, iNumber Number and more.
Users of the unsubscribe offer will see ads while playing and will be asked to upgrade to Showmax paid plans. Customers will be able to easily upgrade to the full Showmax ad-free entertainment catalog to access full seasons of the latest local and international series, blockbuster movies and kids’ content. For live sports, users will need to subscribe to Showmax Pro.

You will not need an account to stream the ad-supported service, which is currently only available in South Africa. Advertised Showmax features a limited list of content and does not include all the features available with a paid subscription, such as downloads and watchlists. It is currently available in web, Android and iOS applications. Users will need Internet access to use the service.
