JOHANNESBURG – With the holiday season fast approaching, President Cyril Ramaphosa has warned South Africans, warning all of us not to become the architects of our own ruin.

He said the country was now transitioning from relief to recovery, rebuilding itself amid the devastating impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the economy and livelihoods of millions of people.

In his weekly newsletter, Ramaphosa said that now was not the time to lower the collective guard.

President Ramaphosa is urging the country to be extremely vigilant to ensure that coronavirus infections do not increase once again, as was seen during the winter period.

Ramaphosa warned that a resurgence on any scale would drastically reverse the gains the country has made so far from a medical and economic perspective.

The president said that people should wear their masks at social gatherings.

He warned that failing to do so would not only put one person’s life at risk, but also that of everyone around them.

Ramaphosa said it was extremely important for the country to comply with COVID-19 health regulations as we all try to rebuild the economy.
