Defense Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has rejected suggestions from a DA deputy that she is no longer fit to hold the post after she took an ANC delegation to Zimbabwe on an air force plane last month. past.

Alf Lees fired the salvo at Mapisa-Nqakula during a meeting of the permanent committee of public accounts of the parliament (Scopa). The meeting was called to discuss the management of the controversial Beitbridge border fence with the Minister of Public Works, Patricia de Lille.

The DA deputy attacked the defense minister after she revealed that members of the military were facilitating the illegal movement of Zimbabweans to and from South Africa at Beitbridge border posts to purchase and collect chronic drugs from South African clinics.

Lees said this, and Mapisa-Nqakula’s controversial trip to Harare last month on the jet with ANC leaders, was proof that she was no longer suitable to serve in that position.

“The obfuscation by the defense minister is very serious. Instead of doing the work that it is supposed to do and making sure its members do it, it is allowing its members to break the law, ”he said.
