“After the ordeal, the victim went home and reported the incident to her mother. Other investigations led to the police identifying and arresting the suspect with the help of community members,” said the police spokesman. Colonel Adéle Myburgh.
On Monday, the suspect appeared in the Ga-Rankuwa trial court, accused of rape. He will remain in custody until his next appearance, on May 21, when he will file a formal bail request.
Provincial Commissioner Lt. Gen. Seal Kwena praised police for the swift arrest, saying crimes against women and children were a national priority, and that they would not leave stone unturned until the perpetrators were brought to the book.
