A 34-year-old man who initially reported his wife missing to police was found in court Monday facing a murder charge.
Sicelo Gumede was accused of murdering his wife of 31 years, Zanele. His case was postponed in British magistrates court until November 26, for a formal request for bail.
Police spokesman Colonel Adéle Myburgh said a passerby found the body of a woman on the side of the road last Friday.
“The body was allegedly found with multiple stab wounds while beheaded with an unknown object. Emergency medical and rescue services officials were called and Zanele was pronounced dead at the scene, ”Myburgh said.
Rustenburg police arrived at the scene with Gumede, who had previously reported his wife missing. He identified the victim as his wife.
But shortly after, he was arrested and charged with murder.
Northwest Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Seal Kwena praised the officers for their efforts that resulted in an arrest. He urged people to seek professional help when experiencing a domestic conflict.
