Nonkululeko Gobodo has resigned as a non-executive director of Clicks as of September 14.
The retailer, which has been criticized for a TRESemmé hair ad that has since been removed from its website, after Unilever admitted the ad was racist and apologized, said that Gobodo, who was a member of its audit committee and risks, resigned for personal reasons. reasons.
Gobodo was a director who openly reacted to the issue, calling the ad “a crime against blacks” and women. She called for a full investigation into how the announcement was made without anyone noticing its racial undertones. She also asked that the Unilever people sign the name of the ad.
However, Gobodo, who was the first black woman in South Africa to become a Chartered Accountant, also defended Clicks at the time, noting that the announcement was not made at the company, but by TRESemmé. But she said the company should take responsibility for posting the ad on its website.
The company said the top executives responsible for airing the announcement also resigned, while others were suspended.
