Cape Town – ” We will go (to) Brackenfell and face the racists. Nobody will stop us. Nobody, ” says EFF MP Floyd Shivambu.

His comments on Twitter on Tuesday accompanied a video of Western Cape Prime Minister Alan Winde imploring the Red Berets not to pursue their plans to escalate the volatile situation in Brackenfell.

“White arrogance is when these settlers attack and assault peaceful protesters, call them Nazis and still have the nerve to tell us not to protest against racism,” said Shivambu.

Education MEC Debbie Schäfer and Winde visited Brackenfell High School today after the violent clashes outside the school yesterday.

Winde, who said she had spoken to the police about the arrests being made, said the EFF was not allowed to protest yesterday and criticized the violence emanating from all parties involved. EFF members were seen today entering the Brackenfell Police Station to press assault charges.

Insisting that closing the school was not an option, Winde said: “In particular, I want to ask the EFF not to continue with its plans to escalate the situation in Brackenfell, as announced in its statement. As a political organization, this escalation is not the leadership that South Africa needs at this time.

“It will not be tolerated (as) we have to give students the best possible opportunity to achieve the results they can.”

EFF Secretary General Marshall Dlamini posted a tweet yesterday with a picture of an armored vehicle, captioned “ Invitation accepted #brackenfellhigh. ”

Interviewed on Cape Talk at noon, Nosipho Makamba-Botya, Provincial Vice President of the EFF, was told that “it appears that the EFF has little desire to participate in reducing tensions at this time.”

After the Dlamini post was referenced, Makamba-Botya said: “ The invitation has definitely been accepted by the EFF due to the fact that the community is really upset about this when we as EFF have the right to constitutional to protest for any time if there are matters of importance that have been reported to us.

“It’s not like we just woke up and found ourselves at Brackenfell High School. We were invited and informed by the parents of the school children about what happened at that event where only white students were having this matrix dance. “

When asked if they really have the interests of black students at heart, considering that they are among the 254 matrices whose exams are being disrupted, she said: “ However, it definitely got out of hand when the community was in weapons, instigating violence against us.

” That was a peaceful picket that constituted only 15 people on Friday and even yesterday we had 20 people who were there. So (it was) the entire Brackenfell community and other people from other areas who really started it all.

“We had no intention of interrupting any exams and I find it very sad that we are now being blamed for it. And yet there have been underlying issues of racism in the school and I am concerned that black students are not being considered.

” This has been going on for some time and now you’re wondering what the (black) student morale is at school.

A Brackenfell High School parent, who was interviewed by the African News Agency outside of school, raged against the ANC and EFF and emphasized that the problem had nothing to do with racism.

“What does the ANC have to do with our private functions? Do we go to them every time and make accusations when they perform private functions and don’t invite white people?

” What the hell does parents have functions for kids that have nothing to do with school have to do with them?

“Now they are interrupting the matrices that are writing exams, for what? It has nothing to do with them. We are here to protect our children.

“We don’t give a damn about the ANC and we don’t give a damn about the EFF. It’s not about race. It’s common damn decency, that’s what it’s all about.

” Why interrupt a busy school with exams when (the private tuition feature) has nothing to do with the school? It’s about getting attention. ”

Meanwhile, the governing body of Brackenfell High School will file an urgent injunction request with the Western Cape Superior Court Tuesday afternoon in an attempt to prevent the EFF from protesting outside the school.
