no Bafana matches in SA unless Banyana is paid an appearance fee of R50,000 each

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have submitted a list of demands to the South African Football Association (Safa) that includes a R50,000 appearance fee and a R90,000 bonus to be paid to Banyana Banyana players when they represent to the country.

The EFF threatened that Bafana Bafana matches would not be played in the country if Safa does not comply with its demands within 30 days.

The demands were contained in a memorandum that was presented to Safa Vice President Gladwyn White at Safa House in Nasrec on Wednesday, as the EFF continues to fight for the Banyana and Bafana teams to receive the same amount.

The EFF members, led by their Under Secretary General Poppy Moiloa and Commissioner Sharon Letlape, picketed Safa House and were joined by former Banyana Banyana captain Portia Modise.

Modise is a longtime critic of Safa and has often criticized the mother’s body for the poor treatment of women’s football over the years.

In the memorandum, the EFF also requires that Banyana players receive daily allowances of 5,000 rands and that the money must be in dollars if they play outside the country.

They also demand the establishment of a first-class and full-fledged women’s soccer league and the provision of medical and specialist support and compensation of R30,000 each for players injured on the field until they fully recover.

“Banyana Banyana is regarded as a second-class citizen who is dedicated to sport so that it can satisfy the national ego relief project of those who run the association in their demand to appeal as progressive,” said Moiloa.

“It is clear that women in sports in this country are not taken seriously. Athletes are valued and often idolized, while women with the same ability and achievements are ignored and do not receive the same recognition, recognition and empowerment both in terms of financial injection and social capital.

“Bafana Bafana and the South African cricket team have been outstanding and exceptional failures over the last decade. They have embarrassed our country both on national and international stages, but they are still celebrated as if they bring glory and pride to our nation. “

Safa CEO Tebogo Motlanthe confirmed that they received the memo.

“We have received the memorandum and we are committed to meeting with them and discussing [further] why [with] some of the problems, there are needs [to be] a round table, ”Motlanthe said.

EFF demand list:

1. Same salary for Banyana Banyana compared to Bafana Bafana.
2. R5,000 daily allowance to be paid to players before the game and in dollars when the game is outside of South Africa.
3. R90,000 game bonus paid immediately after the game.
4. He pays an appearance fee of R50,000.
5. Organize travel logistics for players to and from their respective homes between matches.
6. Players must have their own personal and private sports equipment to maintain a high level of hygiene.
7. Start the process of creating a first-class and full-fledged women’s soccer league.
8. Provide medical support, specialist and compensation of R30,000 for players who were injured on the field until they fully recover.
9. Include in your contractual agreements a non-negotiable clause that sponsors must sponsor both national teams.
10. Fair and reasonable compensation for all Banyana Banyana legends for the past 20 years.
