News Cafe will investigate allegations that Nomcebo Zikode’s concert broke Covid-19 rules

When asked for comment, the Nomcebo team said it was the responsibility of the venue to ensure proper health and safety protocols were upheld.

“If we are asked to perform, at any time and place, it is assumed that it is the owner or the management of the place who must guarantee the requirements of Covid-19. As a performer, Nomcebo doesn’t have the power to do all of those things. Where were the police if the place was packed? I don’t like people saying that she participated. She is a performer, ”said Bongani Dube.

He was unable to comment on whether Nomcebo raised objections when he saw the size of the crowd.

“It was night. We did a song. We did our show and we left. We don’t stay there, ”he said.

Several attempts by SowetanLIVE’s sister publication, TshisaLIVE, to obtain comment from the site’s management were unsuccessful at the time of publishing this article, but News Cafe’s brand manager, Varina Singh, said the company had started a research on the matter.

“We have learned of concerns regarding an event organized at News Cafe Thohoyandou over the weekend, and as a franchisor we have initiated an investigation.

“As a brand, we take non-compliance very seriously, especially as we have taken the necessary steps to minimize the risks and exposure of Covid-19 in all of our stores with strict compliance. Pending the result of the investigation, the necessary actions will be taken ”.
