Police opened an investigation after a newborn baby was found dead under a tree in Cape Town’s Eerste River on Friday.

The baby was discovered by a man looking for products to recycle on Old Faure Road on Friday.

“[A] The death investigation was opened for investigation with no arrests even after a baby was found on Old Faure Road on 2020-12-19 [Friday]”said police spokesman Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana.

According to reports from the Daily Voice, the man delivered the baby, who was dressed and wrapped in a blanket, to resident Louise Dowries, who was walking home from work.

Reports suggest that the baby’s umbilical cord was still attached to her when they found her.
