New Zealand eases quarantine rules for Wallabies

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) confirmed the All the black people will host Australia for two Bledisloe Cup tests next month after officials relaxed the Covid-19 quarantine rules to ensure the series went ahead.

The NZR said the Bledisloe tests will take place in Wellington on Sunday, October 11 and in Auckland on October 18.

“We are delighted to set the dates and venues for the two home games against Australia and we look forward to seeing the Bledisloe Cup at stake next month,” said NZR boss Mark Robinson.

Wallabies coach Dave Rennie had expressed concern that the rules preventing his team from training together while undergoing a two-week quarantine in New Zealand would leave them ill-prepared for a clash against the All Blacks.

But NZR said health authorities had agreed to amend the rules so that the entire team could train together four days after the quarantine period.

“This has been a complex and challenging puzzle to solve and we are grateful that both rugby organizations, together with our government, have come together to bring these games across the line,” said Robinson.

Earlier, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said that “everyone is doing everything they can to make it work.”

Rugby Australia praised the New Zealand government for being flexible.

“Dave and the team are incredibly excited about the prospect of playing in New Zealand,” said CEO Rob Clarke.
