A Northwest man has been sent to jail for raping a 12-year-old girl.

The Madikwe Regional Court has sentenced a 57-year-old Northwest man, Jacob Shimane Mokgatle, to 18 years behind bars for raping a 12-year-old girl.

On February 5, 2019, the girl’s mother came home and was unable to find her daughter, said police spokesman Capt Aafje Botma.
“Then he went to the … neighbor, accompanied by a friend. When they entered the house, they found the accused raping her 12-year-old daughter. The incident was immediately reported to the police, who arrested the suspect.” Botma said.
Northwest Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Seal Kwena welcomed the ruling.
