Economic Freedom Fighters MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi apologized for a tweet in which he defended the harassment of a journalist by party members during a recent protest in Cape Town.
In a tweet on Wednesday, he said:
When I wrote: “The simple act of touching her is not harassment”, it was an irresponsible tweet, giving license to the violent treatment of women. It was also painful and caused many of those who had suffered violence to relive this pain. I apologize and receive all the strong reprimand that you all gave me with love.

Journalist Nobesuthu Hejana and a cameraman had been covering a Clicks protest when they were expelled.
A video clip of the incident showed the group in red jumpsuits touching and pushing her.

Reacting to the clip at the time, Ndlozi tweeted: “But they are telling her that she may be here, but that she is not allowed to speak to the EFF members. It means I was trying to interview them. I don’t really see harassment here. Just touching her is not Harassment. Touching has to be violent, invasive, or harmful to become harassment! “
His comments drew criticism from many quarters, with many saying that it had no place in a country with high levels of gender-based violence.
