A domestic worker and her boyfriend were arrested in connection with the murder of the owner of a seafood restaurant Ocean Basket and his mother in Polokwane, Limpopo.

Police announced a breakthrough in the case on Friday, which led to the arrest of the domestic worker, who was employed by Lizette Deacon, 55.

Deacon and his mother, Hettie, 70, were stabbed to death at their home in Welgelegen on September 10.

Police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the 51-year-old domestic worker was arrested in Polokwane around 08:00, while her 41-year-old boyfriend was picked up at Ivory Park, Tembisa, in Gauteng at 09:00.

The latest development brings the number of people arrested in the Deacon murder case to four.

News24 reported that just three days after the bodies of Deacon and his mother were found tied up in the back of their truck, two men, ages 30 and 35, were arrested.

At the time, Mojapelo said that Deacon and his mother were attacked and stabbed in their home. The victims were then loaded into the SUV.

Abandoned

The SUV was later found abandoned in the bush along the R37 road between Polokwane and Lebowakgomo that same night.

The men are suspected of making their way to dispose of the bodies.

The police were behind them at the time, and a police helicopter spotted the vehicle. Police learned of the kidnapping after the crime scene at Deacon’s home was discovered.

When police got to the truck, it was still idle and the lights were on, Mojapelo said.

Both men appeared before the Polokwane Court of First Instance on 15 September to face two counts of murder and home burglary.

“The 35-year-old suspect will also face a charge under Immigration Law because he is in the country illegally. The team has already identified other suspects and the search operation continues. More arrests are expected,” Mojapelo said at the time. .

On Friday, Mojapelo also revealed that the police are looking for a person named Owen to go to the nearest police station, as it is believed that he could help in the ongoing investigations.

The last two people arrested are expected to appear in the Polokwane trial court on Monday, September 21, charged with two counts of murder, home burglary and kidnapping.
