Cape Town – Police are investigating a murder and attempted murder case after an elderly couple was attacked at their home in Marina da Gama in Muizenberg on Saturday morning.

Police spokesman Andrè Traut said police, upon arrival at the home on Uitsig Road, found a 71-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen while the body of his 65-year-old wife , was found on the kitchen floor. They had stabbed her.

“The man was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

“Police investigators are gathering evidence to determine what led to the fatal incident. It is too early to speculate on the merits of the case at this stage, ”he said.

Muizenberg Community Police Forum Acting Chairman Frank Bokhorts said they rarely experienced this type of crime because Marina da Gama was a low crime area.

He said the area had a lot of killings, but they were generally gang-related killings.

“The Uitsig Peninsula is part of Marina da Gama and borders Seawinds and other areas. Residents have been complaining that there is a large empty area to the north of the area where there are many people jumping the fence.

“However, we cannot attribute the incident to that, as the motive for the crime is completely unknown and appears to be different from the typical burglary and other petty crimes.

“It could have been domestic violence or burglary and robbery, but we cannot speculate at this time,” he said.

Bokhorts said residents had previously been warned to be cautious as there had been murders before.

“They have a good resident association that reports crime on a quarterly basis and they are up to date on that information,” he said.
