Cape Town – A 40-year-old employee of a well-known scrap and waste management company in Mpumalanga is expected to appear before the Vosman Magistrates Court on Monday.

The suspect is linked to a case in which nearly R1.4 million were stolen from railroad tracks, the Hawks said.

“On Monday, members of the Middelburg Serious Organized Crimes Investigation together with Afriguarr, Transnent and the Durban Port Police observed a group of suspects in Kromdraai who were loading naked railway tracks into a truck.

“When approached, the suspects fled and two were arrested on the spot.

“The third suspect fled using the company van, but nevertheless slammed his getaway vehicle into a wall before fleeing,” the Hawks said.

“Despite his attempts, he was eventually arrested Saturday at his Vosman residence after the Hawks relentlessly followed up on information about his whereabouts.”

His two accomplices, Thulani Rodrigo Khumalo (33) and Dumisani David Nkosi (38) who were arrested on Monday.

Khumalo and Nkosi are in custody after their second brief appearance at the Vosman Magistrates Court on Friday.

They are expected to return to court Wednesday for a formal request for bail.

Meanwhile, the third suspect will make his first appearance in the same court Monday on charges of essential infrastructure damage, theft and possession of stolen property.
