CAPE TOWN – On Tuesday, Members of Parliament praised Tsakani Maluleke, who will become the next Auditor General.

Maluleke will be the first woman in the country to be named director of the Chapter 9 institution.

The ad hoc committee established to hire the country’s next Auditor General unanimously agreed to select Maluleke when it meets.

Maluleke will replace Kimi Makwetu when his seven-year term comes to an end in November. All the deputies agreed that Maluleke was the best candidate in their interviews.

The committee interviewed six public accountants for the lead position.

“I am proposing, Honorable Chairman, that this ad hoc committee accept that Ms. Tsakani Maluleke was the best of the best candidates we interviewed,” said African National Congress (ANC) deputy Sfiso Buthelezi.

Democratic Alliance (DA) deputy Jan de Villiers also welcomed the recommendation, saying Maluleke had the necessary experience in public finance management and auditing.

“It is a great pleasure for me to agree with all the recommendations of my colleagues made so far and to support Ms. Tsakani Maluleke in the appointment of the new Auditor General of South Africa,” said De Villiers.

Freedom Front Plus (FF +) MP Wouter Wessels said: “Ms Maluleke was definitely, in my opinion, the most suitable candidate.”

The National Assembly was expected to adopt the committee’s recommendation when it meets next Tuesday.
