Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has faced questions from angry MPs about how the Bushiri managed to get out undetected at all SA entry points.

CAPE TOWN – Members of Parliament (MP) said Tuesday they want to see video footage of Waterkloof Air Force Base as they seek answers on how Shepherd Bushiri and his wife fled the country.
The preacher and his wife, Mary, are charged with fraud, theft and money laundering involving R102 million.
They were released on bail last week, but crossed the border into their home country of Malawi, prompting an arrest warrant, as well as the loss and revocation of bail.
Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi faced questions from angry MPs about how the Bushiris managed to get out undetected at all points of entry.
He refuted claims that they fled on board Malawi’s President Lazarus Chikwera’s plane from Waterkloof, but MPs are not convinced.
The committee chairman, Bongani Bongo, has called for the security footage to be analyzed as part of the investigation.
“If we were to get the images of what happened between the time the plane left and three hours before, all the questions would be properly answered; then we will know exactly what happened.”
The IFP’s Liezl van der Merwe said the leak was a “great disgrace” and also weakened the country’s national security.
“At the rate at which our borders are compromised, over and over again, it is a very serious security risk to our nation. Our nation is becoming a playground for criminal syndicates and possibly even terrorist groups. ”
Motsoaledi told the committee that the government’s security group will do a deeper investigation and report back to Parliament.
