Tottenham Hotspur manager José Mourinho told Football London that he now believes Joe Rodon is ready to start with his team.
Rodon joined Tottenham from Swansea City this summer and has only had a limited game to date.
Spurs are unable to play Rodon during their Europa League campaign as they signed him too late for the registration window.
However, the 23-year-old could be forced to join his team at the weekend, as Toby Alderweireld was injured.
And Mourinho is fully confident that Rodon will be able to step up when he is handed his first Premier League start.
“Yes, I think he’s ready to play. Of course he has not started in a Premier League match, “said Mourinho.
“He played two short periods with us: Burnley and Manchester City. But the Championship is now a high-level competition. It is not the best competition in Europe because the best is the Premier League. But it is much better than the Premier League in many countries.
“So, playing regular in the Championship I think gives a quality player and there are many there. It gives them a certain level of football, intensity and experience that allows players to be good players.
“So yeah, we have Davinson for tomorrow. But for Sunday we will play Davinson and Rodon, we are fine, we are happy ”.
Rodon has been Sánchez’s favorite since his arrival at Tottenham, but pitching him against Chelsea would be a real challenge.
The game already appears to be huge, with Tottenham and Chelsea aiming to be contenders for the Premier League title after their brilliant starts to the campaign.
