Tottenham Hotspur manager José Mourinho revealed the extent of injuries to some of his key players in his press conference ahead of Thursday’s Europa League game against LASK.
Spurs are flying in the Premier League right now, but they have a good test against Arsenal. Form and past results go out the window in a derby, but Tottenham will certainly enter the game as a favorite.
However, fans were spooked this afternoon when news broke that Harry Kane did not participate in the training. Mourinho was questioned about a possible injury to his star forward and some other players, and the Tottenham manager’s response will ease concerns for some fans.
Mourinho told Football London: “All injured. (Erik) Lamela is a three week, one month injury. I don’t think I have a chance for the weekend. Harry (Kane), (Carlos) Vinicius and Sergio (Reguilon), there is an opportunity for the weekend. “
Lamela’s career at Spurs has been constantly hampered by injuries. The Argentine is one of Tottenham’s most skilled players, but his inability to stay in shape has become a major problem.
Ben Davies will cover Reguilon if the Spaniard does not recover from his problem on Sunday. The young Japhet Tanganga can also play as a left back, which makes that a very small concern for Mourinho.
However, the biggest problem right now is with the Tottenham striker. Kane is the most important player for Spurs and his record in the North London derby against Arsenal is brilliant.
Mourinho has claimed that his talisman has a chance to return on Sunday, and Spurs fans will pray for that to happen. However, if he doesn’t, and if Vinicius doesn’t recover either, Tottenham will have a problem.
Either Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura or Gareth Bale will have to get ahead. All three are capable of causing trouble for Arsenal, but none of them are Kane and the Gunners will be sure of a result if the Englishman fails to break into the squad.
