The Sunday Times reported that the slippery escape from South Africa has left President Cyril Ramaphosa “extremely angry”, after a meeting with Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera, who traveled to South Africa around the same time as the pastor’s disappearance, and at red-faced police agencies.

“This is a serious indictment about the role of home affairs and border control to effectively monitor SA’s ports of entry and ensure the movement of people to and from our country,” said the shadow interior minister. from DA, Angel Khanyile.

He said Bushiri’s escape put the security and safety of South Africa in doubt given the ease with which border management systems can be manipulated by corruption and bribery.

Khanyile asked Motsoaledi to appear before parliament to tell the country how Bushiri’s citizenship was granted.

Khanyile said Motsoaledi must also explain how the two fled the country without passports, considering their documents were allegedly turned over to the National Tax Authority (NPA) when they were granted bail.

“The fact that two people wanted for serious crimes managed to flee our country so easily is a slap in the face to the millions of South African citizens who deserve speedy justice for this crime.
